Yoichi 15 Year Old Single Malt Whisky 700ml

$1,900.00

Deeply hidden in the rich forests of the small town of Hokkaido, a prefecture of Japan, Nikka Yoichi Distillery is like a secret castle, vintage red bricks lining the walls and keeping the treasures held within so very well guarded. Stalwart tall towers, clay roof peaks and intricately framed windows seem to whisper of a day when samurai walked in the shadows, their mastery of the dark as deep and soul awaken as just one sip of Nikka’s excellent crafted whiskey. To speak to even more to the legacy of craftsmanship Nikka proudly offers in every bottle, their Yoichi 15 year old single malt is permeated with a rich aroma of delicate cream and silk soft fruits with just a touch of roasted nuts. The palate echoes the forest floor blanketing the distillery with notes of dew dark peat, fresh winter spices, and bites of baked nuts coated in sugary sweetness. Nikka Yoichi 15 year old single malt whisky will rapture your mind and soul from the first quaff, letting your mouth taste the mist covered forests and emerald green hillsides of Japan with a finish both lingeringly rich and wonderfully bittersweet.

About the brand: Yoichi 15 Year Old Single Malt Whisky 700ml

Yoichi 15 Year Old: Nikka’s first distillery is located in the eponymous town on the western coast of Hokkaido. Here, power is the key. Deep and rich with a distinct oiliness – somewhere between linseed and cod liver – there’s also plenty of smoke in the mix as well, and a little hint of black olives in brine with ripe apples lurking behind. I hate making comparisons between Japanese and Scotch single malt but if I was forced to, Yoichi reminds me most of Springbank (edging into Longrow). Water dampens the personality too much for me; best have it full-on and uncompromising. Rather than the palate showing a slow procession of flavors along the tongue, this is a layered whisky; coal-like, oily, and richly fruited with a distinct saltiness on the sides, ably demonstrating that Japan has almost as much variety on offer as scotch.
