Diageo’s 2022 Special Releases highlight the diversity of their most treasured whisky reserves maturing in Scotland. Each whisky is visually brought to life with heavily detailed illustrations and design work.

New Oban bottlings don’t come along very long and this release as part of the Diageo Special Releases 2022 is a bit different to most. Matured initially in refill and new-American-oak casks, it is then further aged in amontillado sherry casks. The result is an elegant sherry-forward, dried and fresh fruit layer that complements Oban’s orangey distillery character.

  • NOSE

    Apples, oranges and sultanas at first, with hints of spice. The sultana notes build but never overpower. Creaminess develops, dusted with lemon zest and a little brown sugar. Toffee and milk-chocolate notes emerge from the depths and crunchy pear sits around the edges.

  • PALATE

    Apples, pears and cream lead to milk chocolate and orange fondant. Soft toffee and a grind of black pepper grow in intensity, with pear, a pinch of chilli heat and green-capsicum flavour. Dark-chocolate and plum notes notes develop with a touch of sweet liquorice.

  • FINISH

    Chilli spice tingles and fades to reveal wine-poached pears and crunchy apples.
